Day 8
Knowing we had almost 17 miles to cover today, my new friends Steve and Tammy from Georgia and I left Los Arcos about an hour and a half before sunrise. A great idea on many levels, mainly to beat the heat later in the day but also because wow the sky has lots of stars, huh? Can’t remember last time I saw them.
There’s a phrase the pilgrims use on the trail a lot. “The Camino provides!” They say. This can mean a lot of things but usually it means finding a free headlamp in the dirt or if you get the last bed at the alburgue. “Woo! The Camino provides!” I’ve also heard people say it as a question, as a hope. “It will stop raining soon. The Camino provides?”
So if I had to use the phrase today, I would say the Camino provides a reminder of stuff you love but have neglected. I need to figure out a way to see the stars more often! Why isn’t everyone talking about the stars? Why is Facebook just full of politics and football and Oktoberfest? Stars!!! Stars!!! They are flipping amazing! Go check them out for yourself! Has it been a while for you, too?
