Day 35
Up here in the mountains, the windows have sturdy wood shutters (inside and outside). No Castilian lace curtains here — these windows are ready for wind and rain and hail and who knows what else. They block out the weather and the light, too, so rooms are often dark and cozy.
My room (In a little 4-room hostel above a bar) last night had these shutters. After my alarm went off as usual, I got myself ready and snapped on my head lap in preparation to bound out into the dark. I was about to leave but peaked out the window to double check the weather guy was right, expecting to see some rain in the glow of the hotel light next door. You can imagine my surprise to find full, bold-as-brass daylight staring me right in the face!
What is going on? Who conjured this sorcery?! What time is it? What DAY IS IT?
Apparently Spain had their time change last night sometime around 3 am and I had NO idea. NONE. Never even occurred to me. I am so out of the loop in this weird time-is-suspended-while-on-adventure moment I even forgot daylight savings time was coming.
So cheers to surprises! May your next one be as easy as some unexpected sunlight.
